Don’t you just love to enjoy a delicious green smoothie! Remember when Donkey, in the animated movie, Shrek, said:
“Have you ever met a person, you say, “Let’s get some parfait,” they say, “Hell no, I don’t like no parfait”? Parfaits are delicious!
That’s how I feel about smoothies. They are just plain delicious. Smoothies are so super simple to make and loaded with all kinds of body-boosting nutrients. Plus it’s really easy to customize your ingredients so that the taste is one you crave. Also, for non-veggie lovers, green smoothies are a great way to sneak veggies into your diet.
Smoothies are pretty much the best-tasting, most nutritious on the go meal know to mankind. Here are some of the main reasons smoothies are so beneficial to your health. Smoothies:
- Are full of vitamins, enzymes, and minerals.
- Are easier for your body to digest and lead to optimal nutrient assimilation.
- Stabilize your blood sugar, especially if you include a little healthy fat in the mix.
- Are a great way to get a variety of fruits and veggies into your diet.
- Are terrific for cleansing the bod of toxicity.
- Are an easy way to add more fiber into your diet.
Did you know that 80% of your energy is spent digesting and assimilating your nutrients? The health of your body depends on your digestion. When you blend your foods, you are supporting the digestion process. Your body doesn’t have to work so hard to break down the nutrients. Thus you absorb more nutrients and have more energy.
Believe it or not, consuming green smoothies makes you more likely to engage in other healthy habits. Because the human mind thrives on consistency, one healthy habit leads to another. So after adding kale or spinach to your smoothie, you may be more likely to try out that yoga class you’ve been thinking about or opt for a side salad instead of fries when eating out.

Drinking smoothies will make you feel more satisfied and you’ll stay fuller longer. Incorporating a tasty green smoothie into your day can lead to fat loss, and the maintenance of a healthy weight.
Drinking the recommended amount of water in a day can seem daunting, but with smoothies, you’re already part of the way there.
You can get some of your water intake from the foods you eat. Fruits and vegetables are quite rich in water. Smoothies, with a liquid base, provide even more of your daily water requirements.
Here’s one of my favorite smoothie recipes for you to try:
Chocolate Kale Smoothie (makes 1 serving)
- 1 cup coconut, hemp or almond milk
- 1 sliced frozen banana
- 1 cup kale
- 3 tablespoons cacao nibs
- 1 tablespoon raw cacao powder, or coco powder
- 5-6 ice cubes
Throw all the ingredients in a high-powdered mixer and blend until smooth.
