Working out benefits your overall health in many ways, but were you aware that exercise also promotes a clear, radiant complexion? Here are some of the amazing benefits you’ll get from regular exercise.

Exercise leads to glowing skin.

When you work out your heart rate rises which leads to an increase of blood flow. This means that more oxygen and nutrients are delivered to your skin. Although the initial flush dissipates as your heart rate lowers, regular exercise will make your skin look radiant.

Exercise detoxes your skin.

When you exercise and sweat you release toxins from your body and your skin. Working out also helps expel dirt, built up oils, and other environmental pollutants that collect on your skin. Thus making your skin healthy and gorgeous.

Exercise leads to better sleep.

If you workout regularly, you’ll sleep better and more soundly. Sleep has been proven to benefit your skin in so many ways. Not only does your skin renew and repair itself while you sleep, but after a good nights sleep it appears more glowing and heathy. Lack of sleep literally accelerates the aging process and beauty sleep is not a myth.

Exercise reduces stress.

Exercise is a great stress reliever and nothing takes its toll on your skin as much as stress! Facial tension leads to that exhausted, wore out look, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Stress is a leading cause of acne, blemishes, and hives. It can also exacerbate other chronic skin conditions like seborrheic, dermatitis, and eczema. When you work out your body releases those feel-good endorphins, which reduces everyday tension and just makes your skin look better.

Exercise slows cell aging.

Working out doesn’t just make you feel younger, it actually turns off the aging process in your chromosomes.

Research done by the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine showed that previously sedentary subjects who started a regular exercise routine actually experienced a reversal in their skin’s signs of aging. In fact, the participants’ skin looked like that of a much younger person [under the microscope], and all that they had done differently was exercise!

Other studies have found that frequent exercisers who were over age 40 had skin that resembled the more supple, elastic skin of people in their 20s. Exercise just makes your skin look younger.

So how should you exercise to get remarkable skin?

Get a good aerobic workout in. Dance, run, bike, walk, swim, row,…just do your favorite cardio. Try some HIIT or interval training, anything that gets your heart pumping and your skin sweating.

Do Yoga. It truly relaxes the body, mind, and soul. Yoga not only tones you from head to toe but also body produces glowing skin. It improves your blood circulation, gets rid of toxins, and rejuvenates your skin.

Lifting weights can prevent and undo the damage that causes your skin to age. Resistance training increases the production of collagen cells and stimulates the production of growth hormone. This repairs the connections between your skin and muscle, giving your skin a tight, toned appearance.

Try pranayama…breathing exercises. They not only relieve stress and calm the mind, but are also good for improving the circulation to your skin. Breathing exercises remove toxins and purify your skin. So practice a few of these and you’ll have have beautiful, glowing skin in no time.

Defy gravity and get upside down. Yoga poses like down dog or just a forward bend work. Hang from an inversion table, do hand stands, or just drape your head over the side of the bed. Inversions can help acne and wrinkles by reversing gravity, giving you radiant plump skin.

Face yoga or facial exercises will tone, lift, and boost the volume of the muscles of your face, making you look younger. A dermatology studies found that found that middle-aged women looked about three years younger after a few months of face exercising!

So what’s the best type of exercise for your skin…all of it!!!

Every form has it’s benefits and most exercise will improve circulation and reduce stress, so mix it up. Try adding 30 minutes of cardio followed by a few yoga poses, or follow a yoga class with a brisk walk, or do some face yoga after your resistance training. Just remember the key to remarkable, amazing, lovely skin is to get regular exercise.
