As any woman over 40 can tell you things change!!! Right when you’re hitting your stride emotionally and intellectually, your body begins to change…and not for the better.

Like the rest of your body, your skin undergoes natural changes too. In particular it’s susceptible to unwanted changes in tone, texture, and tightness. Hormonal changes cause your skin to be a little dryer, thinner…duller. Fine lines and wrinkles appear. What’s worse is that the rate your skin repairs and renews slows down.

Here are the most typical changes you can expect see in your skin after 40:

  • Pigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Dark Spots
  • Large Pores
  • Dehydration
  • Wrinkles
  • Expression Lines
  • Neck Lines

Don’t fret and let this situation get you down. There are many things you can do to turn back the hand of time. Don’t let signs of premature aging hold you back from looking as great as you feel.

Your first line of defense comes with making healthy lifestyle choices. Staying hydrated, getting adequate sleep, eating a balanced whole food diet low in sugar, and exercising, will all improve your look.

In addition to a healthy life style, you need to have a good at-home skincare regimen; a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, serum, eye cream, and SPF daily on your face, neck, and chest.

Here is a great tip you can implement today to get younger looking skin: EXFOLIATION! It’s one of the best ways to get younger looking skin fast. At-home peels or even a simple face scrub can make your complexion look much more youthful and radiant. It also boosts your collagen production.

As you age, skin tends to be drier and dead cells cling to the surface, giving it a rougher texture. When you shed those dead cells with a scrub or peel, it enhances the look of your skin. New fresh cells come to the surface and active ingredients in your skin care products penetrate better. Regular exfoliating is also therapeutic.

One of my favorite facial exfoliating recipes is easy and sweet! I use brown or coconut sugar, because they are softer than granulated and can be used on sensitive skin.

Mix about 2 teaspoons of sugar, with 1 teaspoon of coconut oil. Add a few drops of pure lavender essential oil. Using a gentle circular motion, rub mixture onto your clean wet face and neck.

Remember if you’re not familiar with these ingredients, or haven’t used them before, do a small patch test on the inside of your wrist.

Not only does exfoliating improve the appearance of your skin but sugar is an excellent skincare ingredient. Sugar is a natural humectant. It draws moisture from the environment into your skin. Sugar helps hydrate your skin and keeps moisture in.

Sugar is also a natural source of glycolic acid, an Alpha hydroxy acid. Alpha hydroxy acid encourages cell growth and regeneration producing fresher, younger looking skin.

Sugar scrubs are great because they exfoliate the top layer of skin so your moisturizer penetrates more deeply and hydrates longer.

You only need to use your sugar scrub about twice per week. People who have sensitive complexions or rosacea should exfoliate less often, since those dead cells actually shield your skin from irritation.

Remember one of the key steps to having radiant, younger looking skin is to get rid of old, dry, dead skin cells. And the best way to do that, of course, is to exfoliate.
